تتميز المدينة بأسواقها التجارية ومبانيها المصممة على الطراز الإسلامي، كما يوجد فيها العديد من مناطق التسلية والترفيه مثل قناة القصباء، وحديقة الجزيرة للألعاب، وكورنيش البحيرة. وتتميز المدينة بارتفاع عدد كبير من المآذن. كما يوجد في الشارقة مطار الشارقة الدولي، وميناء خالد.
